History of Aayi Mandapam
Here is the Iconic monument of Aayi, built during the reign of Napoleon III, Emperor of France. This white monument celebrates the gift of water by Aayi, the temple dancer to the French city. Not many know this white monument is the official Emblem of Pondicherry.
The park is a Greco roman construction by Louis Guerre. The park is divided into four equal parts with pathways to walk. Each path has a gate towards the tourist attractions like the Gandhi statue, the Romain Roland library, Raj Nivas, the Legislative assembly, the Ashram dining room, the Government hospital, etc.The park is in Rue Saint Gilles.
